Occasionally, a nonsurgical root canal procedure alone cannot save your tooth
Also known as root end surgery, a microsurgical apicoectomy is an endodontic procedure that involves removing a tooth’s root tip and filling the root end cavity with a biocompatible material.
As opposed to a root canal, an apicoectomy involves removing the infected tissue by accessing it from the gum underneath the tooth.

It’s not uncommon for a tooth that has undergone a trauma to darken or become discolored. This is due to blood and other fluids leaking from the root canal to the dentin and enamel of the tooth. While conventional teeth whitening is not successful in these cases, internal bleaching is.
